The new year is right around the corner, and if you’re like many people, you make resolutions—a list of things you’d like to do or accomplish during the coming twelve months. Maybe you want to finally go on that dream vacation or reconnect with an old friend.

The team at Oak Tree Dentistry encourages you to consider your oral health as part of these coming resolutions.

For example:

  • Schedule a checkup and teeth cleaning.
  • Change your toothbrush every six months.
  • Finally, consult your dentist about a cosmetic issue that has plagued you.

Whatever your oral health and aesthetic goals, your Lodi and Elk Grove dentist supports and encourages your resolve.

6 Dental Resolutions to Set for the Coming Year

#1 See Your Dentist Regularly

Rather than skipping checkups and teeth cleanings, resolve to visit your dentist every six months. Checkups mean your dentist can spot gingivitis before it advances to gum disease. Gingivitis is curable, but advanced gum disease is only treatable.

Gum disease can cause tooth loss, and studies now link it to Alzheimer’s disease, heart health issues, and more.

Checkups also mean regular oral cancer screenings and a lower risk for tooth decay and oral infections.

Teeth cleaning reduces your risk for all preventable dental health issues. It is also a way to freshen your breath and give your smile a clean slate every six months.

#2 Brush Your Teeth Purposefully

Brushing after every meal is essential, but shoot for at least twice daily. Also, brush purposefully, hitting all surfaces, including behind the teeth. Spend time when you clean your teeth using a gentle circular motion that includes the gums. Also, use a soft-bristled toothbrush carrying the American Dental Association seal of approval.

#3 Don’t Skip Flossing

Today’s busy lifestyles mean some of us skimp on flossing, fall into bed after scrolling social media, and are ready for sweet dreams. Remember, many cavities form between teeth, and your toothbrush bristles can’t penetrate every nook.

When flossing, use a fresh string section as you move across your smile! Otherwise, you are only redistributing debris and bacteria.

#4 Consider Your Smile Nutrition

Some foods and drinks are just bad for your teeth, especially sugary and acidic indulgences. This coming year, resolve to cut down on fruit juices, candy, soda, and sweets. And pledge to clean your teeth soon afterward when you do indulge.

#5 Schedule a Cosmetic Dentistry Consultation

If you’re like most of us, you have a smile flaw that you wish you could fix. Maybe it’s tooth discoloration, a missing or chipped tooth, or something similar. Modern cosmetic dentistry can help.

Your cosmetic dentist in Lodi and Elk Grove offers:

  • Dental veneers
  • Dental implants
  • All-on-4®
  • Dental bonding
  • Tooth-colored restorations
  • Smile makeovers
  • Clear aligner orthodontics

At the time of this writing, we’re offering a free Invisalign® consultation in Lodi and Elk Grove!

#6 No Insurance? Resolve to Check out Our in-Office Membership Plan

You may have seen our in-office membership plan but didn’t pay close attention. It is designed to make dental care accessible and affordable for everyone despite a lack of insurance. It is a way to get the treatments you need to maintain your dental health, and it also comes with discounts on select treatments and services.
